Recent Transactions:

-Added Josh Phegley (C - CWS); dropped Wilson Ramos (C - WSH)
This was a risky move that very well could come back to bite me, because Ramos was instantly snatched up off of waivers. But I was just too intrigued by Phegley's potential to pass him up. Because, if his does turn out to be for real, I'd be kicking myself if I were to miss out on him. And let's just say, he hasn't disappointed yet. True, it's a small sample size, so he could turn into a carbon-copy of Tyler Flowers in a week or two. But if his minor league numbers are any indication, he should continue to rake like he has been. Which isn't to say Ramos isn't for real as well. He's a much safer bet to have a better season than Phegley. But you pretty much know what you're going to get from him, whereas Phegley is a crapshoot. And given the fact that my team currently sits at 4th place in the standings, I figured I'd roll the dice.

-Added Adam Lind (1B - TOR); dropped Alcides Escobar (SS - KC)
I was really banking on getting some SBs out of Escobar, but over the course of the few weeks I've had him, he's laid a big fat goose egg. And he wasn't doing much else to help my team, plus, I suddenly have a surplus of middle infielders now that Brett Lawrie (3B - TOR) has gained 2B eligibility in CBS leagues. As for Lind, he's also been in a bit of a slump as of late, but he's having a nice season otherwise, and does have legitimate power, having hit 35, 26 and 23 HRs in '09, '10 & '11, respectively. And with as many 3B as I have on my roster, Chris Davis is my only 1B, so it doesn't hurt having some depth. With that being said, if all goes according to plan, I will be dropping him on Friday for Leonys Martin (OF - TEX), if I can get the waiver claim (I'm 7th in line, so it's not all that likely, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I really do need the SBs).

-Added Omar Infante (2B - DET); dropped Henry Urrutia (OF - BAL)
Yes, I realize Infante is on the DL at the moment, but he's due back this weekend and my league uses weekly rosters, so he'll be starting for me come Monday. Which is sad, really. Because at this point, I have more faith in him starting than either Lawrie or Gyorko. I'm not really thinking about dropping either guy yet, but if they don't heat up soon, I might. And granted, Infante may struggle as well coming off the DL, but he at least has a much better track record of producing than either of the other two guys. As for Urrutia, I really didn't need him anymore now that I've got the following player:

-Added Christian Yelich (OF - MIA); dropped Taijuan Walker (SP - SEA)
I was hoping Walker would be the uber-prospect to get the call coming out of the All-Star break, but it was Yelich instead. And uber-prospect he is -- a consensus top 10 guy. So is Walker, of course, but Yelich is the man of the hour, so I pounced. It's all about "what have you done for me lately", and I'd much rather have the uber-prospect who's up and producing right here and now rather than the guy who's still in the minors. Not to mention, I recently read a report claiming Walker may be tipping his curveball a bit. Of course, you wouldn't be able to tell it by his minor league numbers, but major league bats would surely make him pay for it if it really were the case. So, I'd imagine the M's will want him to hammer out those issues on the farm, rather than risk bringing him up and ruining his confidence. Granted, the report may be complete BS -- I don't know -- so take it with a grain of salt. Still, not something you want to hear about a young pitcher.

-Added Alex Wood (SP - ATL); dropped Ivan Nova (SP - NYY)
Even though Nova has been pitching as well as anyone in the league as of late, I not entirely confident he'll be able to sustain that success, as we've seen this from him before -- he pitches well for a stretch, only to inevitably implode down the line. Sure, this could be his year -- the year he's finally turned the corner -- but I just don't feel all that comfortable starting him. And even though Wood is just as big of a crapshoot, I'm much more intrigued by him. Firstly, Braves pitchers tend to be pretty good, and he has already had success in the majors. I don't necessarily think he'll be the next John Smoltz, or what have you, but when your team is sitting in 4th place, you might as well take the chance. Stranger things have happened.
