With the MLB season underway, I've already been fiddling around with my team. Nothing major, but it appears one decision already came back to bite me (in a sense -- Matt Garza pitched a 2 hitter over 8 innings today... and still lost).

Recent moves:
-Added JJ Hoover (RP - CIN); dropped John Lackey (SP - BOS)
I love adding closers off the waiver wire, and this one was a no-brainer. While Lackey may surprise again this season, I don't see him carrying too much value, and Hoover should be solid as closer for the first couple months of the season. Granted, he will undoubtedly lose the role once Chapman returns, but facial/head injuries can be tricky, and the Reds should be pretty good this season. So I can see him racking up enough saves to make the move worth it.
Edit: Not long after posting this, I read that Broxton will be reinstated from the DL as soon as this weekend, and will immediately takeover as closer. So much for the JJ Hoover experiment. That didn't last long. But luckily, since my league uses weekly roster transactions, I was able to drop him for Jenrry Mejia (SP - NYM), without dropping him from my active roster for this week. So hopefully he'll be able to record a few saves before he gets the hook. But Mejia may not last long on my roster either, as I've put in a waiver claim on Rajai Davis (OF - DET). Doubt I'll get him, since I've got the #9 claim (after claiming Bourn), but it's worth a shot. He could solve my stolen base problems single-handedly.
-Added Erasmo Ramirez (SP - SEA); dropped Dan Haren (SP - LAD)
Made this move before the season started, and even though I'm a Dodger fan, I'm glad I did. Because Ramirez was lights-out last night. He was pretty hyped-up coming into last season, but stumbled a bit, and was all but forgotten this year. But his amazing spring jogged my memory (he posted a ridiculous K/BB ratio and hardly gave up any runs). And I haven't really had much faith in Haren since about 2009. As a Dodger fan, I hope I'm wrong about that, but I see Ramirez as having much more upside.
-Added Francisco Rodriguez (RP - MIL); dropped Will Venable (OF - SD)
Another closer off the waiver wire. The Brewers surprised everyone when K-Rod took the mound in the 9th instead of Jim Henderson, and I could see him sticking in the role. However, Brewers' manager, Ron Roenicke, claims that won't be case, and that Henderson will be back once he returns to form, but crazier things have happened. So he's worth a shot. As for Venable -- I actually think he'll be pretty good this season (which is why I drafted him), but he seems to be pretty undervalued in my league, and wasn't claimed off waivers. So I'm hoping he'll still be around if I need him at some point.
-Added Jim Henderson (RP - MIL); dropped LaTroy Hawkins (RP - COL)
This may seem like a stupid move on the surface -- drop a closer for a recently demoted closer. But I'm looking long-term here. It's fairly common knowledge Hawkins won't stay closer in Colorado for long, as Rex Brothers (who's sitting on my bench) is poised to replace him at some point during the season. And, as I mentioned above, Roenicke has said he wants Henderson back in the closer's role when he's ready. And, I'd rather lock up the Brewers' saves over the Rockies' because I think they'll win more games. So, I was lucky Henderson's owner dropped him before Roenicke made the announcement.
-Claimed Michael Bourn (OF - CLE) off waivers; dropped Matt Garza (SP - MIL)
Not sure why Bourn was dropped -- he is on the DL at the moment, but he may be back in the lineup as soon as this weekend, so it's not as if he's going to miss much time. And I could definitely use the speed, so he'll fit right into my lineup. Granted, he did underperform last year, and his injuries could hamper his speed, but given the fact he's coming off the DL so soon, I don't think it will be a problem. On the other hand, Garza looked pretty damn good today -- allowing only 2 hits over 8 innings while striking out 7 -- but he can be up and down, and is a pretty major injury risk. So, I'll take my chances here. It would've been an equal trade, had it been a trade.
-Added Chris Owings (SS - ARI); dropped Torii Hunter (OF - DET)
This one is a bit of a gamble. And I don't really have anywhere to play Owings at the moment, but I do think it will pay off. Hunter should be fine this season, and will likely perform like he always does, but he is getting up there in age, and doesn't have a whole lot of upside anymore. Realistically, he'll probably hit about .280 with 15 to 20 HRs, and that's fairly easy to replace off the waiver wire, if need be. But Owings, on the other hand, has a ton of upside, and could end up being one of the better rookies in the league this year. He can hit for average, has double-digit power, and can steal bases. Plus, he plays at a weak position (not for my team, but for the league in general). So, even though I currently have better options at my middle infield positions, he could become a hot commodity in the near future, and set me up to make a trade. Or, at the very least, he could make a nice replacement at my utility position, if Anthony Rizzo doesn't come around.
