---Best Pick: Anthony Davis (C - NO) at #7. I was shocked to see Davis slip so far, even though it was at least partly my fault since I too passed on him at #5. He's a consensus top 3 pick, and I've seen him go as high as #1 in some drafts, over LeBron (after Durant got hurt, at least). Though Cousins is a legit top 10 pick, there's no way he should've gone over Davis.
So why did I pass on him if I like him so much? It came down to position scarcity -- or rather, my drafting habits. In the past, I've had a tough time drafting shooting guards, and usually end up trailing in points almost every single season I've played. And even though SG is fairly deep this year, I knew I wouldn't be able to bring myself to draft a player like Dwyane Wade or DeMar DeRozan with a high pick. Perhaps I underrate them, but there were only 4 SGs on the board this year who I felt comfortable drafting as starters - and I got two of them (Harden & Kobe. Ellis & Thompson were the other two). In any case, I was hoping Andre Drummond would fall to me in Rd. 2 & take care of my defensive stats since CBS had him buried so low in their rankings. But, alas, it wasn't to be.
---Worst Pick: Kevin Durant (SF - OKC) at #8. How can Durant possibly be considered the worst pick at the back end of the first round? It might have something to do with the fact that he's all but guaranteed to miss at least 20 - 25 games this season, and possibly more. Granted, I understand it's a hard name to pass up in a fantasy draft, but I had him ranked at #23, I believe, which was very generous, might I add. Some of the more conservative rankings had placed him just barely inside of the top 50. So taking him at #8 is a huge reach. Not sure if this owner was asleep at the wheel and hadn't heard that Durant had broken his foot, or what. Maybe he doesn't buy into the severity of the prognosis, but it's an injury that has cost some players an entire season to recover from, and team doctors have urged him to take an extra-cautious approach in his recovery, so as not to cause further damage. On the other hand, when he does return, he should retake his place as the #1 player in fantasy, so there's that. And, yes, he could beat the odds and return early. But it's a tremendous risk to take with your 1st rd. pick.

---Best Pick: Andre Drummond (C - DET) at #19. I did a sort of voodoo dance and hexed my computer when this pick was made, because I had Drummond in my queue and was ready to take him. Why? Because he looks like he's taken the next step into elite territory, and has been killing it during the preseason. There's a good chance he could rival Anthony Davis for the top spot at C this year. He may not score quite as much, but he should be lethal on boards and blocks, and I'm talking 12+ rpg & 2.5+ bpg. If he can add 15-17 ppg to his stat line, he's all but guaranteed to be a top pick next season.
---Worst Pick: Derrick Rose (PG - CHI) at #21. Though you could fairly criticize me for taking Kobe at #20, Rose is an even riskier pick with far less upside. Whereas we know what Kobe is capable of, there are questions as to whether Rose will ever be a superstar in this league. Sure, he has the talent. But he hasn't been able to capitalize on it, mostly due to the devastating injury he suffered so early in his career. Most fantasy owners have him pegged as about the #10-#12-ranked PG in the league, given his average draft position, somewhere in between Mike Conley & Ricky Rubio, and most analysts seem to think that's being a bit generous. So to take him right after Lillard & Irving went off the board was pretty major reach, albeit a reach a lot of owners seem to be making this season.

---Best Pick: Chris Bosh (PF - MIA) at #29 (if I don't say so myself). I suppose you could put Dirk Nowitzki or Goran Dragic right up there as well, but Bosh is a legit 2nd rd. pick, and pretty much cancels out my reach on Kobe (taking Bosh at #20 & Kobe at #29 would've made a lot more sense, but I doubt Kobe would've lasted that long, oddly enough). Though a disappointment during the LeBron-era, Bosh should be allowed to shine in Miami now that the team is essentially his. He's been aggressive on offense early in the preseason, and has been playing down low in the post again, instead of manning the 3 in deference to King James like he did in years past. So I should get pretty good value here, I'm hoping.
---Worst Pick: Deron Williams (PG - BKN) at #34. Perhaps this would've been a good pick 3 or 4 years ago, but in 2014, Williams is a risky selection anywhere within the top 50. He hasn't been the same player since moving to Brooklyn, and probably sunk to his lowest low last season. Is he capable of bouncing back? Of course. But he hasn't inspired much confidence in fantasy owners for quite some time. So, if he doesn't get it turned around in rapid fashion, his trade value will be virtually nil, and he'll end up being one of those players too good to bench, but too mediocre to boost your stats in any one category.
