Fantasy Basketball 2012 - Waiver Wire Sleepers

With another night of games in the books, let's take a look at some of the more intriguing waiver-wire acquisitions.

1. Tobias Harris, SF - MIL
Like Al-Farouq Aminu, who occupied the top spot in my last WW Sleepers post, Harris excelled during training camp and the preseason, and was rewarded with a starting role this season. Only in his second year in the league, there is plenty of room for upside here. In his season opener, the former Tennessee forward scored 18 points, pulled down 6 boards, dished out 2 assists, and blocked a shot. What makes that stat line all the more remarkable is the fact he shot 72.7% from the field. Will he do that every night? No, but he might end up shooting at around a 50% clip, which would be excellent for a Small Forward. In any case, Harris did log 33 minutes on the floor, and should be a staple in the Bucks lineup going forward. Add this guy NOW, before it's too late.

2. Brandan Wright, SF - DAL
With Dirk Nowitzki out of action to start the season, Brandan Wright has stepped up for the Mavs and picked up some of the slack (not all, but some). In his first two games, Wright is averaging 14.50 ppg, 4 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks. He's not a big rebounder, but he is a shot blocker and can score at a decent clip. Averaging only 22.5 minutes per night, Wright should see his minutes increase if he continues to put up numbers like he has been. And, he could very well end up forcing the coaches hand to keep him on the floor even after Dirk returns. I'd take a wait-and-see approach here, but I am definitely intrigued.

3. Danny Green, SG - SA
Green can do a bit of everything, albeit, not at a very high clip. He can hit 3s, pull down a few boards, and is a pretty good defender to boot. He might not score all that much, sharing the floor with Tony Parker, but he can fill up the stat sheet on any given night. In his first 2 games, he's averaging 11 ppg, 4 reb, 2 art, 1 steal, 1 block and 2 three-pointers per game. He plays starter's minutes (he's averaging 33.5 per game), so I expect him to maintain this pace for the rest of the season. So, if this is the type of player you need, go ahead and scoop him.

4. Randy Foye, SG - UTA
Foye has always been a pretty good shooter, when he's hot, and he's hot right now. Granted, he doesn't do much else, he's not a table-setter, or much of a defender, but he's definitely not afraid to take a shot. The reason he's on this list is because of his 3-point shooting. To give you an idea, in 2 games this season, he's already hit 6 three-pointers, averaging 3 per game. That may be a bit high, but he should finish the season somewhere around 1.5 to 2.0 per game. I'd recommend riding Foye while he's hot, and ditching him once he goes cold.

5. Steve Novak, SF - NY
Another 3 point specialist, Novak can really knock 'em down. In his season opener, he knocked down 5 threes in only 26 minutes. Like any shooter, he will be streaky, but he can add 3's to your totals in droves. Granted, the rest of his game is a bit lacking, but he sure can shoot. He's basically Kyle Korver from 2005.
